On Sunday, April 28th we will come together for our 11th Annual One Great Day of Service.  Please join others from Community Presbyterian Church as we reach out to do God’s work and serve our greater community.  Choose among the many service opportunities listed below and put your faith into action. BABYSITTING

Purpose: Caring for young children (ages 0-5) during the OGDOS.

Leader: 

Project: Care for CPC children (ages 0-5) so that their parents may participate in OGDOS events. (Note: Parents must provide food and drink for their children)

3 workers needed (adults or older youth only)

Begin work: 10:50 am

 

BROOKSIDE APARTMENT MINISTRY  

Purpose: To provide an outreach ministry to children living in this community of Southern Pines.

Leader: Rod Stone

Project: To spend time providing activities, games and crafts to children age 3 - 16.

15 workers/ Children 10 years and older are welcome

Departure Time: 12:45 am

 

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF THE SANDHILLS  

Purpose: The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills is to inspire, enable and educate young people from all backgrounds and circumstances to realize their full potential as responsible, productive, caring citizens.

Leader: 

Project: Cleaning inside and outside, gym baseboard project, touch up painting, washing windows, and organizing. Please BYO repair tools.

15 workers/ Children 10 years and older are welcome

Departure Time: 11:00 am

CASSEROLE CONNECTION

Purpose: Make casseroles for Linden Lodge Foundation, an organization dedicated to the recovery of men and women with a serious and persistent mental illness.

Leader: 

Project: Making casseroles for Linden Lodge

6 Adult workers needed

Begin work: 11:00 am

 

 

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY AREA

Purpose: To prepare this space for use.  It has been closed due to the 2020 renovations.

Leader: Julie Pitts and Ginny Hobgood, Bob Baer

Project: General clean up, organize storage closets, paint furniture and arrange rooms.

8 workers needed – Families welcome. Minimum age: 8 years old

Departure time: 11:00am (CPC Campus)

COALITION FOR HUMAN CARE  

Purpose: The Coalition meets the emergency needs of Moore County residents by providing food, clothing, and financial resources.

Leader: Lynn Cribs

Project: Help with the Food Bank Drive, working at area grocery stores for non-perishable food donations to stock the Coalition food pantry.

10 workers needed – Families welcome. Minimum age: 4 years old

Departure time: **This project will be completed on April 27th and 28th instead of Sunday**

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

Purpose: To assist our church family members at their homes with tasks difficult for them to do, due to illness, physical restrictions or surgery.

Leader: 

Project:   To do yard work: planting, pruning, Spring clean-up. Lunchtime is “fellowship” time with the individual home owner.

8 workers/ Children 12 years and up are welcome with an adult

Departure time: 11:00 am

 

 

COOKIES FOR COLLEGE AGE KIDS

Purpose: To remind our CPC college age kids that our church family supports them.

Leader: 

Project: Church members who love to bake will provide (3 dozen) cookies, brownies, etc. for packing in boxes to mail to 20 college age members.

20 church bakers needed to bake (3 dozen) goodies at home and bring to the church kitchen on Saturday at 11 a.m. Sunday: 6 workers needed to divvy up goodies, pack, and address boxes for 20 college kids, then 1 worker needed to help mail on Monday.

 

 

CPC CALL CLOSET

Purpose: As a mission of CPC, this program creates a supportive community for children and their families with limited proficiency in English, to help empower them to succeed in school and in life.

Leader: Judy Silver

Project: Clean out and organize CALL's storage area. 

Departure time: 11:00 am (On the CPC campus)

 

 

CPC CHURCH CLEAN UP

Purpose: To spruce up church grounds, the prayer garden and welcome center garden for Spring.

Leader: 

Project: General cleanup, trim bushes, mulch, spread pine straw & other garden tasks.

12 workers needed/ Children 10 years and older are welcome

Departure time: 11:00 am (On the CPC campus)

 

 

FAMILY PROMISE

Purpose: To provide shelter, meals and supportive services to homeless families with children.

Leader: 

Project: Yard clean up, flower bed cleaning, freshen mulch, etc. Please bring rakes, garden tools, and also mulch is needed.

7 workers – no minimum age

Departure time: 11:00 am

FOOD BANK of CENC

Purpose: No one goes hungry in Central and Eastern North Carolina

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Purpose: Habitat brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Leader: Buck Bradshaw

Project: Siding and miscellaneous framing work at 255 Benjamin Street Aberdeen, NC

15 workers needed (Must be at least 16 years old.) Additional paperwork to be signed prior to work date. Please bring work gloves and knee pads.

Departure time: 11:00 am

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Purpose: To serve ice cream to all participants of OGDOS after the work day.

Leader: 

Project: Set up tables prior to the social, help “scoop and top” sundaes, and clean up.

6 adult workers needed

Begin work: 12:15 pm

 

 

INTERFAITH FOOD PANTRY

Purpose: Assisting those in need with food for stretching their food budgets.

Leader: Joe Carter

Project: Cleaning of floors, windows, counters, bathroom, AC units, and refrigerators.

8 workers needed/ Children ages 10 and older with an adult

Departure time: 11:00 am

LIFE CARE PREGNANCY CENTER

Purpose: TBA

6-8 adult workers needed

LINDEN LODGE FOUNDATION 

Purpose: An all volunteer organization dedicated to the recovery of men and women with a serious and persistent mental illness by providing opportunities for residents to live, work, and learn. 

Leader: Bob Rupel

Project: Paint walls and trim in the kitchen and hallway.

8 adult workers needed

Departure time:  11:00 am

LUNCH MAKERS

Purpose: To make lunches for all of the CPC volunteers.

Leader: 

Project: Prepare bag lunches: sandwiches, assorted chips, chocolate chip cookies, tangerine, mayo, salt pepper and bottle of water.

5 adult workers needed on Saturday morning; and 3 adult workers needed Sunday morning.

Work begins on Saturday: 9:00 am - 12:30 pm  

Work begins on Sunday: 9:00 am - 11:00 am

 

 

**Monroe Camp & Retreat

Purpose: Their mission is to invite people to a time and place apart where relationships with nature, others, and God can be nurtured. 

Leader: 

Project: Build and replace basketball goals.

**Boy Scout Troop #7 will be taking this mission on as their project.

2 adult workers needed (handyman/construction experience requested)

MOORE FREE CARE CLINIC  

Purpose: To provide quality primary, specialty and preventive health care to those of Moore Co. who don’t have health insurance and whose income is below the FPL.

Leader: 

Project: Painting of 4 exam rooms.

8 workers needed / Children ages 12 and older welcome with adult.

Departure time: 11:00 am

NORTHERN MOORE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER

Purpose: To encourage the development of strong families and healthy children through educational support, free summer camps, after school programs, and housing support.

Leader: 

Project: Renovation project, painting, possibly park refurbishment.

15 workers/ Children over the age of 14 are welcome with an adult

Departure Time: 11:00 am

PHOTOGRAPHY

Purpose: To photograph the joy, hard work, spirit & sense of community during OGDOS

Leader: 

Project: Visit the various sites of OGDOS; photograph throughout the day; create a Power Point presentation for the 3:00pm celebration at the Ice Cream Social.

6 Photographers with digital cameras needed

Departure time: 11:00 am

 

SANDHILLS TEEN CHALLENGE  

Purpose: Offers rehabilitation services to adolescents and adults dealing with addiction and drug dependency issues

Leader:

10 workers needed

Departure time: 11:00 am

SANDHILLS WOMAN’S EXCHANGE  

Purpose: Women helping women to help themselves.

Leader: Faye Urello

Project: General outdoor clean-up, raking, mulch flower beds, plant flowers, smooth out ruts in parking lot. Bring rakes, shovels, and gardening tools.

6 workers needed/Children welcome

WILDCARD PROJECT

For the adventurous volunteer willing to serve wherever he/she is needed. Write “Wildcard” on your registration form and you will be assigned to the project needing the most help. We will truly appreciate your willingness to assist where the sign-up is sparse. Thanks!
