On Sunday, April 19th we will come together for our 12th Annual One Great Day of Service. Please join others from Community Presbyterian Church as we reach out to do God’s work and serve our greater community. Choose among the many service opportunities listed below and put your faith into action. Click on each project picture or title to sign up!
Purpose: Caring for young children (ages birth-6) during the OGDOS.
Leader: Ginny Hobgood
Project: Care for CPC children (ages birth-6) so that their parents may participate in OGDOS events. (Note: Parents must provide food and drink for their children)
3 workers needed (adults or older youth only)
Begin work: 10:00am-3:00pm
Purpose: To provide an outreach ministry to children living in this community of Southern Pines through ongoing programs and special events.
Leader: Julie Pitts
Project: To spend time providing activities, games, snacks and crafts to children age 3 - 16.
8-10 workers/ Children 10 years and older are welcome

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF THE SANDHILLS
Purpose: The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills is to inspire, enable and educate young people from all backgrounds and circumstances to realize their full potential as responsible, productive, caring citizens.
Leader: TBD
Project: Cleaning inside and outside, possible basic repairs, touch up painting, washing windows, general organizing and possible bus cleaning (weather dependent). Please BYO repair tools.
10 workers/ Children 13 years and older are welcome

Purpose: Make casseroles for Linden Lodge Foundation, an organization dedicated to the recovery of men and women with a serious and persistent mental illness.

7 Adult workers needed
Begin work: 12:15pm-3:00pm
Purpose: The Coalition meets the emergency needs of Moore County residents by providing food, clothing, and financial resources.
Leader: TBD
Project: Weeding, planting flowers, preparing community garden, spread straw. If the weather is inclement, then, cleaning, sorting clothes, stocking food and possible painting.
10 workers needed – Families welcome. Minimum age: 7 years old

Purpose: To assist our church family members at their homes with tasks difficult for them to do, due to illness, physical restrictions or surgery.
Leader: Kathy Hodges
Project: To do yard work: planting, pruning, weeding. Spring clean-up. Lunchtime is “fellowship” time with the individual home owner.
8 workers/ Children 12 years and up are welcome with an adult
Departure time: 10:30am
Purpose: To remind our CPC college age kids that our church family supports them.
Leader: Char Popson
Project: Church members who love to bake will each provide (2-4 dozen) cookies, brownies, etc. for packing in boxes to mail to 20 college age members.
20 church bakers needed to bake (2-4 dozen) goodies at home and bring to the church kitchen on Saturday by 11 a.m. Sunday: 4 workers needed (some sitting jobs) to divvy up goodies, pack, and address boxes for 20 college kids, then 1 worker needed to help mail on Monday.
CPC CELEBRATION/THANK YOU RECEPTION
Purpose: To prepare for and serve the participants of OGDOS

Project: Be ready to assist between the 9:00 am and 11:00 am worship services

Purpose: To wash windows

CPC CHURCH CLEAN UP-EVERETTE HOUSE
Purpose: To provide spring cleaning for Everette House and church kitchen
Leader: Sue Ann Summers
Project: Cleaning and organizing in Everette House and church kitchen area, CALL (Community Assisting Language Learners) areas included.
8-10 workers needed
Start time: 10:30am (On the CPC campus)
CPC CHURCH CLEAN UP-ROSE GARDEN MAINTENANCE-Project Pending
Purpose: To provide a tranquil setting in the church garden

Project: Clean up beds, prune, cut back- general garden maintenance. Bring your own appropriate tools.
4-6 workers needed
Start time: 10:30am (On the CPC campus)
Purpose: To provide shelter, meals and supportive services to homeless families with children.

Project: Yard clean up, fresh mulch, 'reclaim' driveway, remove overgrowth in natural area, trimming etc. Inside cleaning-baseboards & windows, organizing. Bring cleaning supplies and yard tools (hedge trimmers, rakes, edger etc.)
5-10 workers – 8 years old, minimum age

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-Project Pending
Purpose: Habitat brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Project: Siding and miscellaneous framing work at 255 Benjamin Street Aberdeen, NC
15 workers needed (Must be at least 16 years old.) Additional paperwork to be signed prior to work date. Please bring work gloves and knee pads.

Purpose: Assisting those in need with food for stretching their food budgets by providing resources to qualifying Moore County citizens.

Project: General cleaning- floors, shelves, refrigerators and windows. Bring your own cleaning supplies.

LINDEN LODGE FOUNDATION-Project Pending
Purpose: An all volunteer organization dedicated to the recovery of men and women with a serious and persistent mental illness by providing opportunities for residents to live, work, and learn.

Project: Paint walls and trim in the kitchen and hallway.
8 adult workers needed

Purpose: To provide lunches for all OGDOS volunteers

Project: Prepare bag lunches and distribute to all volunteer teams

Purpose: Their mission is to invite people to a time and place apart where relationships with nature, others, and God can be nurtured.

**Boy Scout Troop #7 will be taking this mission on as their project.

MOORE FREE & CHARITABLE CARE CLINIC
Purpose: To provide quality primary, specialty and preventive health care to those of Moore Co. who don’t have health insurance and whose income is below the FPL.

Project: Spruce up/refresh outside of clinic area. Mulch, refurbish garden, plant pots etc. Bring your own rakes, trowels, pruners, hoes, etc.
8 workers needed / Children ages 12 and older welcome with adult.

NORTHERN MOORE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER
Purpose: To encourage the development of strong families and healthy children through educational support, free summer camps, after school programs, and housing support.

Project: Spruce up town-owned park used by Resource Center. Spread significant amount of mulch. Replace swing set, increase mulch area. Bring your own shovels, wheelbarrow/cart, rakes, general tools (screwdrivers, hammer, etc).
8-12 workers/ Children over the age of 12 are welcome with an adult

Purpose: To photograph the joy, hard work, spirit & sense of community during OGDOS

Project: Take photos/videos capturing volunteer experiences with smart phones/cameras. Then send them to the church for compilation into a presentation to be shared with volunteers and congregants.

PRANCING HORSE FARM @ A Bit Used
Purpose: Enhance the lives of special needs individuals by providing a safe environment for therapeutic horsemanship

Project: Clean used tack (saddles, reins, etc.) at A Bit Used (Prancing Horse used tack store)

SANDHILLS TEEN CHALLENGE -Project Pending
Purpose: Offers rehabilitation services to adolescents and adults dealing with addiction and drug dependency issues

Project: General outdoor clean-up, raking, trim flowers/bushes, mulch etc. Bring rakes, shovels, and gardening tools.

Purpose: Community Presbyterian Church visits member shut-ins throughout the community (Fox Hollow, Quail Haven etc.)

For the adventurous volunteer willing to serve wherever he/she is needed. Write “Wildcard” on your registration form and you will be assigned to the project needing the most help. We will truly appreciate your willingness to assist where the sign-up is sparse. Thanks!
